onto number six
May. 7th, 2021 08:02 am I've been heavily thinking about starting You Are My Hero (Bai Jingting and Ma Sichun) for awhile now, and I finally decided to when i saw a moot on Twitter mention it and that it looked like a DOTS ripoff. That's what i thought too tbh but ig it's based on an original novel so... I've never seen DOTS, though I thought about starting it back when it came out. But the premise IS kinda the same: a surgeon girl and a special forces guy fall in love against the backdrop of war or natural disaster kinda thing. The difference I guess is that this guy is SWAT and clearly the natural disaster or war or whatever that forces them together doesn't happen until later in the drama. Also, I think the persona of the guy is different as well. The guy in YAMH, Captain Xing Kelei, is kind of the "mean male lead" trope.
Though, in my opinion, I just realized last night when I was watching ep.5 that he is basically Gu Nanyi relocated to the modern era lmao. There ARE some differences, but there are a lot of similarities too. Like the fact that he's just good at everything physical and becomes weird and awkward when he has to have too much social interaction. So yeah anyway I've gone through 5 episodes. It's on Viki. There's a lot of random medical stuff, which is not something I like. One of my most hated drama genres is medical lmao. But there is also lots of action and gun fights apparently based on the last one I watched huhu.
Lol one of my thoughts last night when I was watching though, I was like, damn this drama is SO straight. Mainly bc Kelei is that perfect alpha cool guy who's super strong and good at everything. Like if you're a woman with even only one straight bone in your body, this guy is hot. But plus, the side couple is the same way, except Shu Wenbo is a lot more chivalric and nice compared to Kelei.
I did go back to Lost in 49 so I could swoon over Chen Kun some more. Zhicai and Liwen are annoying, but not nearly as annoying as Ning Yi and Zhiwei. I've got 20 episodes left on that one now.
Istg fujoshis are such pathetic misogynistic weirdos. I'm so sick of these C-ent accts I follow constantly posting shit about Word of Honor. It looks like cheap trash. Bad acting, bad fight choreo, stupid story, etc. Like what even is the point. As far as i can see, it's just a way for crappy actors that no one would bother casting to get work. I actually do the opposite. I avoid everything they're in. Except Xiao Zhan bc his fandom did some serious damage to fujoshi land lmao.
See, I have nothing against shounen ai in principle, hell I even write it myself, but I have something against it in practice, i.e. in terms of what a bunch of straight female incels drool over. Bc they make it all heteronormative and fetishize the relationships. And most of these BL Cdramas are totally pathetic lacks of chemistry with goofy lines that just sort of give the fujoshis license to believe there's an actual intimate relationship there lmao. It's really lame.
I can't wait to angrily try that bat drama with Mao Zijun so I can mercilessly mock it if it fits any of the above parameters. I mean, tbh, even though I enjoyed Killer Healer, it was mainly bc of the Jiang Yuelou character and the overall story. I can fully admit that onscreen, him and Ian Yi had almost zero chemistry once again. It was very onesided. It's kinda funny bc offscreen, I watched a lot of interviews and stuff, and they were cute and funny together. So, to a certain extent, I blame the lack of chemistry on the constraints of the doctor character, but it doesn't change the fact that it was barely there and I fully admit it.
