Long time no see DW lol. Gonna put this here to not clog up my LJ and whatnot. Actually, there's no rhyme or reason what I put here or there. 8D.  But so, i watch and have watched a LOT of Asian dramas over the years. Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Taiwanese. iT'S MOstly Chinese these days and I haven't watched a Taiwan in years now. But as many different genres as i'm willing to try, the modern romance drama has just GOT to be the most difficult shit to get right. I won't even touch medical, so that's not a thing.

By modern romance i mean a drama set in modern times where the romance is more or less the main goal and there are not any extra genres like crime, action, comedy, mild fantasy/sci-fi, etc. And I don't mean /friendship/ dramas where there might be romance, but it's mainly about the friendship of a group of guys and gals.  Upon looking over my entire drama list, I can only find about five that I actually finished and enjoyed. They all had one thing in common: they were either Japanese dramas, or they starred Vic Zhou.

So my question to myself is WHY the heck I keep tryna watch them when they suck so bad. I actually used to watch Taiwan ones when they were popular, but most of them sucked as well. It seems like only Japan can get the modern romance drama right. I think the main reason they do is bc they're short. No one wants to watch 40 or even 20 episodes of melodramatic nonsense.

Sadly, part of why I watch or try to watch the Chinese ones is that inevitably, it's the only way i can hear a favorite actor's real voice. Supposedly, that's changing, but not fast enough. Right now I have two on my list in Moonlight with Ding Yuxi and Win the Future with Chen Kun. DY is super cute and his character in that drama is hilarious, but everything else about it is super annoying, and mainly that's the FL.

Chen Kun is one of my top favorite actors EVER, but i'm struggling to enjoy the appropriately acronym-ed WTF. The subject matter is just so boring and just when you think less things could happen, even LESS happens.

So I'm super mad that I'm still considering watching She and Her Perfect Husband with Xu Kai and Love At Night with my newest crush Liu Xueyi. Bc they are prolly long and i will prolly hate them by episode 10 or so.

UGH.

i AM JUST SURE they could do a better job of making these dramas interesting. And they could start by halving the amount of episodes.

The two biggest Kpop fandoms, or well, used to be the two biggest, i just witnessed some examples of their stupidity. First of all, EXO lmao. Their fandom is clearly literally made up of nothing but solo fans who hate every other member. I went to some old accts i used to follow, who were PCY fans, but they were also Sehun fans bc they liked SC and all of that, well guess what?  Now they hate everyone except PCY. So basically, if any fan of any other member says even the slightest negative thing about PCY they go all ballistic and attack whoever that member is. I mean, i'm sorry HOW DERANGED IS THIS. It's completely and absurdly deranged. Meanwhile, you got Sehun fans running around calling PCY a cheater at every opportunity and look at my last post, who cares? Who cares if he really cheated? How is that your business?  WEIRDOS.

Then, in the other corner competing for the mental illness champion of the year, we have BTS fans trending a hashtag about how BTS is bigger than the rest of Kpop, which on the surface is nbd, but if you look at all the quotes, what they're celebrating is that only BTS has the rights to the golden gate of Western acceptance and not the rest of lowly Kpop as fucking IF Western pop is better than Kpop lmao don't make me laugh. I've noticed that in that fandom though. They are very Western centric and they pride themselves on always saying that BTS has transcended the lowly level of other Asian pop and made it into the vaunted and celebrated superior Western sphere, the implication naturally being that anything Western is superior than anything Asian.

It's actually really gross and one of many reasons i hate that fandom.   OH and here, this is rich, they're also tryna say that the hashtag isn't xenophobic bc Koreans also used it and said BTS is above Kpop. Yeah lol i've seen Knetz comments a lot of them have a sugoi amount of internalized racism where they TOO believe Western music is superior and BTS gaining Western attention is a sign that they're BETTER than other Korean music. This is not a good defense, sorry.

In other news, Deng Lun was convicted of tax evasion so idk what will happen to the new Ni Ni drama. Ffffffffff. I was lowkey looking forward to that.  Maybe they can refilm his parts and replace him with someone I actually like, like Bai Jingting lmao.

Also saw some Pann post where Knetz were complaining about the age gap in some drama. I looked it i up and it's fucking FOUR YEARS. FOUR!!  That's literally a freshman and senior in university kinda thing. Y'all age gap pearl clutchers are getting WAY out of hand.

but whyyyy

Lol i gotta say, I find it really weird and dumb that PCY stans on Twitter are so strongly focused on insisting that he didn't cheat on his alleged gf or whatever it was she accused him of, assuming that his girl was real in the first place. There's really no proof either way from a neutral POV. But these stans are out there angrily grabbing every post about that and insisting that it's not true. To me, this is the wrong way to go about this lol. i mean, putting aside for a second that the people who are so offended by PCY cheating on a gf or having hordes of ONS women and all of that, those people are highkey dumb too.

But my question for both camps is why do you care? You don't know PCY, you will never know him IRL, you will never be his friend, much less his girlfriend, why do you care what he does in his private life? Like, is that why you're a fan bc you believe him to be someone who closely follows your own moral code? Bc that is WEIRD lmfao. I stan people for some combo usually of their looks and talent, sometimes personality if it's in any way relevant, but a lot of the times it's not bc i don't have time to check out everything they do offscreen or away from music yk?

So I could not care less if my faves are dating 500 women at once or have no concept of a monogamous relationship. I really don't care. It's not my business, they're not my friends, and as long as it doesn't badly affect their career, i just don't care. Hell, even if i did care, it wouldn't make any difference right?  I don't care who else wants to stan them and who doesn't. Some people have zero good reason to not like someone. It might be something they personally believe in, but makes zero sense to anyone else.

Y'all need to quit policing everyone else's morality, and especially in fandom spaces because that's not even real life. For example, I don't like Wang Yibo. I don't like him bc he's bad actor and he has a fanbase of annoying af fujoshis whom i can't stand and he was in that stupid wuxia that all the ifans love so much bc hits all their fave fetishizing notes. The fact that he's a bad actor is less important than all the latter stuff, which I totally blame him for. SO it doesn't matter what else he does, I will always dislike him for those reasons. And idc if you think they're irrational, i will still dislike him even if you argue against any of the points i just said.

Point is, if there's people who don't like PCY bc they think he's a cheating womanizer, unless PCY HIMSELF comes out and strictly and explicitly says that he's neither one of those things, those people will always dislike him. Your insistence that he never did this that and the other will not get through to them.  That's why i say that the best method is to not care. Because if you're out here arguing madly that he didn't do those things, what you're saying is that you care about whether he did or not and your standom is based on those things. If you don't care, then you're free. If other people want to dislike him for any reason, that's their business.

You wouldn't go to the park and set your picnic down next to the only pile of dog shit, so why are you so focused on and obsessed with the stuff you can't control? Namely, other people and the things that offend them. Find another spot in the park lmao.

i really don't even want to talk about this Cambrian Period drama bc there are sooooooooooooo many things frustrating me about it. Like ostensibly the plot is supposed to be about the Autumn Door gang tryna go legal, the widow of a rival gang's revenge, and smth smth police chief mole, but it's all over the place and they spent like...3 eps on a ridiculous love triangle arc that wasn't even that bc the police guy really doesn't seem interested in Tang Yin at all other than as a key piece of evidence.  And Tang Yin is ridiculously mean to Jian Zi despite him trying everything to be a "good guy" in front of her.

But one of the things that's frustrating me the most is the confusion over ages. Why do i say that? Well check it out. First of all we have...the IRL age of Hou Minghao in this drama. He would have been 19. His face definitely looks 19. Further, Jian Zi is called a kid by many characters, but especially Tang Yin who uses it to disparage him, that she doesn't go out with kids and so on and so forth. That would all be FINE except for the fact that the IRL actress is most likely only 22 in this drama and she looks maybe 25 at most. But the way her character acts towards Jian Zi in terms of calling him a little kid, and the thing is, he never argues with her, just occasionally tells her to stop, but he's never like, oh you're not that much older, so it's heavily implied that she IS that much older, like what, pushing 30?

Again, this would almost be fine, like ok I'll suspend my disbelief that this girl is supposed to be older than she looks, nbd, but THEN they threw in another arc where JZ's childhood friend comes back, presumably from college and is somehow a doctor AND two years younger than him. So then suddenly, it's like, wait, so what is he now, 24??  Who calls a 24 y/o a kid unless they're like, 40+???  I was totally willing to suspend my disbelief and allow myself to see Tang Yin as an immature almost 30 y/o or smth, but over 30? nooooooooooo i can't do that. Plus, like i said, i can't even bring myself to see Jian Zi as 24 bc lmao he absolutely looks 19.  It's even worse bc Minghao is currently 24 and he looks very different from how he looked at age 19, so it's even harder.

This drama is messing with me and not in a good way. It's all over the map and for some reason i REALLY hate the bit where JZ is being forced by his father to marry a girl he has no feelings for and the little trollop is totally willing to selfishly go along with it bc she has a crush on him. This, combined with the fact that TY has run roughshod over him the entire drama just fffffffffffffffffff rubs me massively the wrong way.  Though, it does appear that JZ is finally getting some balls based on how the last ep went lmao.

Also, damn good kiss scene Mr Hou for being 19 even. I've seen much lamer ones from ppl way older than you lol.

New albums and whatnot bc i like to take a break on the new stuff at the end of each month to reply things lol. So I listened to the new minis from Moon Byul, Whee In, and BamBam, plus Durdn, Co Shu Nie, and The Cheserasera, oh and fromis-9.  Mamamoo girls are solid as always, but i think i liked Whee In's album more than MB's, plus I liked MB's previous album better i think. BamBam is probably my favorite GOT7 soloist at this point though. Him and maybe Youngjae.

Apparently that's all i have to say about music lmao. Well, i was poking around on stan Twt the accts i remember and whatnot and ye gods Lay stans super super annoy me. They act like he's some special snowflake who had to work harder than everyone else somehow like please. He actually had some entertainment experience from when he was a kid even. Honestly, no one in Chinaline had any kind of particularly hard time except maybe Yifan bc he spent a lot of time in Canada and whatnot, but that gave him the extra benefit of knowing multiple languages. But they act like Lay makes the most unique music and should get extra kudos just bc he didn't leave the group.

First, stop fucking fooling yourself. He did TOO leave the group. Just bc he didn't walk out on his contract like LuTaoFan, he did leave the group. He obviously worked out some kinda backdoor deal with SM to technically stay in EXO while doing his own thing. He, like a former moot said, did indeed get the best of both worlds. It doesn't matter that certain fans hate him, bc that happens no matter what you do. Kfans had already started hating on him after Tao left. He wasn't gonna win with them no matter what. But, by staying with EXO, he gets to save his moolah and pat himself on the back for not being a traitor or whatever like the other three lol please.

Second, his hip-hop Chinese traditional EDM fusion is 100% NOT new. If you've been around Cpop for longer than EXO has been in existence, you would freaking know that. Gong and Tai Yi are two excellent examples and there are many more.

Don't get me wrong, I don't particularly have any beef with Lay other than his strong CCP support that goes above and beyond most other celebs, but my gosh i can't stand his fans. They are truly annoying and ignorant. That's why i was laughing when they were beefing with WYB fans, like overrated celebs with stupid fans, y'all deserve each other.
