As it turns out, I can't find Garden of Evening Mists anywhere that's available in my location. I thought it was on Prime, but either I didn't see the location part or they've since switched it. It only seems to maybe be available on Hulu if i get an HBO subscription lol. I only have Hulu through Spotify right now and tbh i never use it bc there's generally nothing there that isn't on a service i already pay for. BUT, i guess it's fine for now, I'll just wait. Bc I finally started Sword Snow Stride and got obsessed with it in fairly short order.
I can't say that i can really explain why i like it so much. It's pretty funny, which is unusual for this type of wuxia. I thought the ML was gonna stay smart and useless, but he decides to learn martial arts bc he wants to retrieve something belonging to his mentor. I won't say any spoilers about what, but yeah. Idk about that reason but i guess it was too much to expect that he would really go the whole drama without martial arts. I still mostly like his character tho bc he's very...how shall I say...tricky? Like half the time his reactions to something aren't real, but with the intent on either provoking a certain reaction from the other person or to give them the wrong impression and hide his own intentions.
His relationship with the servant girl is also interesting. Not sure if he's supposed to have a big age gap with her in the show, but IRL the actor is about 12 years older than the actress playing Jiang Ni. Mainly saying that bc there tends to be a lot of pearl clutching in the fandom over age gaps, which I largely find ridiculous. Especially in ancient dramas ffs. I'm noting the relationship bc i'm not sure what the intent is. THere are a lot of little hints that suggest something more between them, but she puts on the front that she kinda hates him lol but considering everything that's happened in 11 episodes, I'm not buying it anymore.
Anyway. I managed to find a full-length book from Jeannie Lin at my library, so I'm giving it a try. I read one chapter last night and it's giving me glorious ancient Cdrama vibes with the promise of sexy times hahaha.
