 Finished Sword Snow Stride

Started Who Rules the World and The Legends.

Sword Snow Stride ended on a o hay there's a second season note. Which might have been exciting if i'd watched it when it aired, but x-months later and there's no sign of a second season being worked on, and it's instead disappointing. I was really into this drama early on, like bingeing on it and shit, but  it got slow and repetitive roughly 10 eps from the end. The only thing that kinda saved it for me was the final fight, which was pretty admittedly epic. I really liked the Fengnian character at first too, but his dopey self-righteous act got kinda old and he was just starting to look dopey carrying two swords around but never using them bc he had no real ability.  The power transfer by the monk early on just looks nonsensical now. Ig all that could be resolved with a second season lmao but who knows.

I feel like I've watched so much xianxia lately and it's honestly bc that's mostly what out there seriously. Either that or modern romance/romcoms and i almost always hate those bc they usually involve "perfect guys" and "perfect" women with child voices. You read the plots and your eyes glaze over. I mean, even though there was some interesting elements to Moonlight, i left it on read at 13 eps and haven't been back. There needs to be more Republican era stuff ugh.

Anyway, so i started WRTW with Yang Yang and Zhao Lusi and it seems pretty promising. Looks slick, has a different feel that i can't explain from other xianxia, the fights are well done. Yang Yang remains his usual boring self, but Zhao Lusi is a perfect foil for him bc she's so animated and funny.  I'm not super far in, but i like it so far.

Then there's The Legends LOL. THis looked really good to me but ugh...the first episode was insanely boring. No rhyme or reason for anything. The FL is hot, kinda reminds me of Shu Qi, but her hottness is ruuined somewhat by all the giggle snort giggle sigh dubbing. And ofc Xu Kai, but he hasn't done anything except look confused for three episodes. Hot, but confused lmao. I watched three eps and i'll probably give it a couple more just bc like i said, it LEWKS GUD. But it needs to shape up here.

My drama situation is volatile and might change at any time lol. After watching some reallly great stuff earlier in the year I've been struggling to find things that are good enough to keep my attention. Sword Snow Stride and Welcome were probably the best for awhile and I thought I was really digging Tomorrow, but somehow I totally skipped it this weekend in order to restart Stealth Walker, but more importantly to start Once UPon a Time in Lingjian Mountain.

LOL so the latter was completely random to an extent, but i found it via tropes i like, namely older woman-younger man and master-student, except it's reversed master-student hahah. It was also on Netflix. AS it turns out it also hits a rare category that I really like: the funny goofy wuxia/xianxia. I come from the era of watching goofy HK wuxia and i highkey miss that style now, and i honestly RARELY see it so this one got me going after the first episode once I actually realized what it was. I also have never gotten the ifan appeal of Xu Kai, but in a rare reversal, I will say that I definitely see it now lmao. He's very funny, first of all, but also he has a unique appearance he is pretty attractive.

I also SUPER like the FL though too like i srsly wish she was in more stuff she is HILARIOUS. Her expressions are so great. Oh and the dubbing in this is really bad, but again, that actually kinda helps how absurd it is. The basic story has something to do with the ML being some genius with a special ability that no one knows how to cultivate, so he's relegated to being a mascot of this sect he tried really hard to join. BUT it turns out that the FL knows how to do it so she becomes his master. The FL however is more interested in wine and money than helping him, OR SO IT SEEMS.

I think i'm like 14 eps in yet, so not quite halfway through. There are several different plot threads happening, though they're kinda background for goofy hijinks and whatnot. The CGI and SFX are quite good and even the choreo isn't bad when it's supposed to be serious.

Anyway I'm extremely digging it and so far it's kinda what I was hoping Romance of Tiger and Rose would continue to be before it started taking itself too srsly and became rather mean. In the meantime, I'm waiting for Who Rules the World with Yang Yang and the girl from that to start airing on Netflix on Thursday, and also the Wind Blows From Longxi with Chen Kun, which I think i saw might air on iQIYI but not sure. I just saw a BTS of his fight scenes and nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn i'm gonna love this so much. Plus he has scruff.
