Have been having a weird L'arc problem so i'm avoiding them now. Ahem. I did mention how there are two more FMA movies coming out right???  I originally gave the first movie a so-so review, saying that it was fun and looked good for FMA fans ONRII bc it would be incomprehensible to non-FMA fans. This was seemingly backed up when a friend of mine confirmed that indeed she didn't understand the movie and had no previous background with FMA.  I still more or less stand by that though. HOWEVER, upon watching it again, I definitely conclude that if you loved FMA, this was good stuff. And it looks like it's bouta be even better stuff with the next two.

One of them just came out and the next one is due out June 21 or 24 I can't recall. Am hoping they will make it to Netflix STAT like Kenshin did. I've been watching trailers on the Hagarenmovie Twitter lol. One of which was a fight with Scar. I'm always randomly amazed at how good my Japanese listening is though bc i didn't need subs to understand it like at ALL. Also, upon watching that first one again, I suddenly realized that Yamada Ryosuke is legit a babe, even though he's short lol. I also started thinking he looked a bit like Edawn and someone at MDL in the comments for one of his dramas said the same thing and i was like DUDE. Y E S.

Anyway, moving onto Daybreaker that i just started. Li Yifeng is cornering the market on my favorite dramas this year so far, unless we count Lingjian Mountain, but that was an older one. Guh so this is very INfernal Affairs-ish with deep undercovers in drug gangs. DEEP BREATH as i try to explain this plot. Luo Xiang was deep undercover in a drug gang. He was killed during a bust by a police who seemingly tracked him down. Except he wasn't killed. He was rescued by someone and comes back five years later but he's hiding under the name Chen Mo. But I think that's his real name??? Now he's recruited to do it again but the guy who's recruiting him doesn't seem to know who he is, on the other hand, the police who killed him is highly suspicious that's who he is.

So LYF is effectively playing three roles. There's Chen Mo, Luo Xiang, and fake Luo Xiang lol. Anyway it's really good and Li Yifeng is super hot. I have to agree, China really does like their super frosty ML, but idk i can't lie, that's more attractive to me too versus say, the ML of Tomorrow who is overly emotional and demonstrative.

Finished Tale of Twin Cities last night and...no complaints really. Generally satisfying. I won't spoil the ending, but it's pretty predictable if you've been paying attention. I wasn't all that affected by it tbh. These days I'm just happy to encounter a drama that doesn't rile me up right before the ending and the ending doesn't feel rushed or forced or is just unnecessarily tragic or something. Things I found super refreshing about this drama include:

- The fact that Su Mo was extremely powerful and intelligent and never overly emotional. He was respected by pretty much everyone he came in contact with. And those who didn't respect him, well, they usually regretted it later lol. I really dislike struggling, weak, emotional, or dense male leads. Su Mo very perfectly fit the heroic ideal and it was a nice change. I will also give kudos to Li Yifeng too bc his visual and the calm collected way of his acting extremely helped complete the picture.

- The OST was pretty nice. There were the usual soppy insert songs, but the instrumentals were varied and memorable. I liked the opening so much that i never skipped it.

- Emotionally, the drama stayed on a very even keel throughout. I didn't feel like anything was unnecessarily dramatic or put there for additional dramatic effect. There were sort of three tiers of villains: Cangliu in general, Zhi Zhe, and Yu Huan. They all had different goals, and none were what I would call cartoonish. Unfortunately, despite their villainous tendencies, none of them trusted each other (which makes sense) and so they never teamed up very effectively against Kongsang or Su Mo.  HOwever, all three of them were VERY hateable for different reasons.

- There were plenty of morally gray characters. Not everyone was straight up good or evil. I like the realism of this.

- The CGI was super good.  All the magic and the dragon and whatnot was super cool and definitely gave you that fantasy realness.

There was nothing I didn't like tbh. There wasn't much romance per se, but I didn't really go into it for that. I never felt much about the main relationship, but I think that had a lot to do with the FL's acting. It was very stiff and cold and I just never felt her supposedly strong affection for Su Mo. However, the side couple of Yan Xi and Na Sheng was pretty cute.

So yeah. I'm not really saying this is a sensational drama and everyone should watch it, but it was very absorbing to me as a fantasy story and satisfying as a whole.

Now I'm down mainly to finishing Last Cinderella, which has 3 eps left and I honestly am not sure who the FL will end up with. Her relationship with Hiroto seems so shallow but her relationship with Tachibana is so comfortable and buddy buddy that it's like, wait, if you have a relationship like that with a guy, like HELLO???

Then there's Cambrian Period which is fffffffffffffffffff.  Such a pain to watch. I have to watch shitty quality vids on DramaCool or whatever for the subs, then pause and go through the subless HQ YT vids whenever Jian Zi is in the picture. I refuse to miss out on HQ Minghao is mainly the problem. That's the only reason i'm not done with it yet. I really ought to be by now bc it's not like it's uninteresting.

So basically, after finishing Under the Power and From Five to Nine, I became completely obsessed with Tale of Two Cities. I binged on everything that was out and translated until there was nothing left, so now I'm in waiting mode LE SOB.  In the meantime, I've gone back to Psych Hunter, which continues to be endlessly entertaining and visually pleasing.  I don't watch a lot of xianxia, but for some reason, ToTC has totally gripped me. I can't even explain why bc the main couple is about as boring as they possibly could be. I am not feeling their eternal love or whatever lol.

The basic premise, as far as i can figure, is that the merpeople tribe are in exile from their home thanks to Kongsang rulers sealing their dragon deity 7k years ago or smth like that. They have various weaknesses and not a lot of power, so they're endlessly abused by the Kongsang and Cangliu people. The show starts at a point where Kongsang is about to be conquered by Cangliu, but at the same time, they were trying to foment a marriage between the crown princess from the Bai clan and the king's son. THere's a convoluted thing involving the princess's seal and the merdude sent to break it. But supposedly they really fall in love lol like i said not feeling it.

Anyway, 100 years later, the merdude Su Mo is Emperor of the Sea and has loads of power. He's trying to return his tribe to their original home. Meanwhile, the Kongsang people are trying to break the seals they used to keep Cangliu from wiping them out. The first half of the show was used roughly to set all of this up and now they're finally looking for the seals and whatnot. There's also a Central Plains (read: human) girl who's along for the ride, having accidentally taken the Kongsang prince's super cool ring.

I guess what i like about it is just the world and the characters generally.  It seems like a very well-developed world idea and such. Lots of magic and mayhem lol. I also really like LI Yifeng as Su Mo. He's so broad hahah. Tbh i like him as an actor a lot so it's now making me want to go back and finish Sparrow.

SO YEAH i still honestly couldn't tell anyone what about this show that is so addictive but i guarantee if all the episodes were out, i'd have it done by the end of this week probably.
