For some reason DW isn't letting me switch to the rich text tab so that's annoying. Reviewing and revisiting basically I'm just gonna revisit the Studs albums for a minute. Bc I was SUGOI into them between 2007 and 2009. I never had much opportunity to be much into Deadman when they were active so my real start to stanning Aie WAS the Studs.
SO to start. The Studs released one EP in 2007, then full albums in 2008 and 2009. THere are also about six extra songs from single b-sides and special stuff. OF those, the only one that's fairly notable is As It Is. The rest have too much of Daisuke's screaming to be very enjoyable.
The Studs EP just called "Studs" was very raw and minimalistic. My favorite song was always Thursday just bc Aie's playing is crazy amazing, but now I'd have to say False the Skin and Tonight is the Night are more pleasant bc Daisuke isn't screaming. This is my refrain in revisiting these albums: Daisuke isn't screaming. I used to apparently tolerate it or ignore it much more than I can now lmao.
Moving onto And Hate. Back then, I splooged SO HARD about this album and now, I'd have to say that yes, it was definitely by far their best album. Daisuke sang on most of it and it had a lot of memorable songs, including Advance Insane, Dread, Unsightly Stupid, Gaze, etc. Looking at it now, it seems obvious that the Studs were more Deadman part 2 versus what Aie eventually did with TGADS. He was using the same heavily modified ESP as with Deadman, but he switched to another one when he started TGADS. So for the most part, these are riff-driven songs and are very minimalistic. Aie does occasionally do a quick solo, but in the traditional sense, they're not really the kind you might expect lol.
But yeah, And Hate was very solid. NOw, in 2009 they released Alansmithee. They also announced their hiatus around the same time. The interesting thing is that Alansmithee is a name that directors? i think use when they don't want their name to be associated with the work, like a protest. I've never been sure if Aie did that on purpose or not. So anyway, I didn't particularly like this album when it came out. I said it was too bass-forward, Daisuke's singing sounded forced (albeit better than what he normally does), and Aie was always in the background. He also wrote all the songs compared to before when Yukino (the bassist) usually had a couple. It was overall a really mellow album and had really funky riffs and solos in it from Aie. Like in 帳 for example.
At the time, I said that I thought Aie was bored bc it kinda sounded uninspired overall, but otoh it sounds closer to what he started releasing with TGADS a few years later. 贖罪の羊 is another good one with a memorable riff. So yeah, i'd have to say that I didn't really give this album a proper chance who knows why maybe just getting tired of Aie not being solo lol.
