Since this is where i post my overflow media splooge i naturally have to update with my latest obsession: Aie.  It's not new though. I've been a fan of him for something like 15 years now. Icb it's truly been that long lol and unlike a lot of faves i had back then, i've never actually "gotten over" him so to speak. Most of the bands I liked at that point, i haven't touched in years and have never even felt inclined to.

How did i get into him?  It's been awhile obviously so i can't recall exactly, but my guess based on going over my old entries is that he first actually caught my attention when I saw the promo for the Studs. Yeah he was really hot then with that hat and looking all fucking mysterious and shit lol.  Then Thursday prolly came out and I was massively impressed with his guitaring, so I prolly revisited Deadman, which had broken up by then, and paid actual attention to his playing, WHICH then led to me watching the last Deadman live, the super long one with like 40 songs and that did it more than anything. I FELL HARD BB.  Literally did not stop talking about him for the next 2-3 years until the Studs broke up.

Fast forward from there until now, I've still kept track of him off and on bc his main solo thing is the god and death stars where he plays guitar and sings, then he's also been in KEEL, Gibkiy x3, a few other random projects, and a one-off trio thing called The Madcap Laughs. BUT I highkey yeeted VK from my music life in about 2016 and didn't listen to anything from that genre for about five years. Lately, I've slowly been trickling back, thus the Hizumi splooge from awhile back. Hizumi was like a sekrit bias from those days. I was never much into D'espairsRay as a band, I just listened to their music a lot, but never like idk got into the members or whatever, but I always thought Hizumi was an amazing singer.

But Aie...hahah, he was on another level. AND it's all coming back. His guitaring remains incredible.  I've never found watching a guitarist as fascinating as i find watching him. But I also super love his singing.  Live...his singing is a bit dodgy. I just don't think he pays it the same attention as he pays his guitar, which is understandable hahah. But recording he prolly does it separately and it sounds pretty good most of the time. To me he's kinda like a mix between Gara (Merry) and Tatsu (MUCC).  He's got that perpetual raspy quality like Gara does, and he rarely uses vibrato, but when he does he puts it in weird places, which also reminds me of Gara. He uses a lot of shred, which i fucking love shred hahah. He almost never uses falsetto, another huge plus to me, and his voice is mostly on the lower side, but he's really expressive even if he doesnt have a huge range.

The way i know when i'm hitting obsession station is when i feel like i hear something new every time i listen. And that's definitely where i'm at right now with TGADS lol.
