May. 8th, 2021 10:59 amWell into the Chinese DOTS sksksks ok it's honestly probably not. It doesn't seem the same to me. At least, from what I know. The medical and surgery stuff is really tedious and i find myself skipping forward a lot. So the earthquake thing happens at ep.13. There's like 27 eps to go so I'm not sure if this is the big event or if there's another one. The funny thing is that the MDL description doesn't line up at ALL now. Like, it's totally different from how the summary is. Bc it makes it sound like they don't like each other and they clearly do, that is Mi Ka and Xing Kelei. It also makes it sound like the big event is in another country so like i said idk if this is it or not. The parts outside of the hospital and SWAT thinger are probably the most entertaining tbh bc Kelei is hilarious and Jingting plays him so well.
I kinda came to the conclusion yesterday in fact that Kelei is a really ridiculous character. It would be easy to play him that way too and then it would be cringe af, but Jingting's ultra-serious portrayal of him is perfect. Like, he's obviously super smart and clever and good at everything, but he's also a dork and the most random things stump him lol. As i said, it would be easy to play him badly and make everything really cheesy. Anyway that's just me being impressed with Jingting as an actor lmao.
In terms of the show itself...so like, tbh I don't watch very many modern era dramas. I vastly prefer ancient times, Republican era, or occasionally wuxia if I can find one that isn't cheap trashy shit. I'll do modern if there's a fantasy element or it's very action-y, i.e. bring me the GUNS, but this is mostly romcom combined with medical and a dash of police and crime stuff. In other words, mostly not my taste lol. Most Cdrams set in modern times I've dropped, or slogged through and mostly hated lol. I think my romcom phase is over.
Oh OH but there was a super hot scene where Kelei is testing out a high precision sniper rifle (their words not mine) and I liked everything about that scene. It was even a bolt-action, which is really what pro snipers prefer bc they're more consistently accurate vs. semi-auto high powered rifles. But yeah everything about that scene was nnnnnnnnnn.
Nevertheless, the romance and comedy aspect is good. I just hate a bunch of other things about modern Cdramas like product placement, random phone game promotion, WeChat promo, usually some kind of party line propaganda, and bad acting from side characters. Was telling a Twitter moot that the historical dramas typically have better acting and are obviously free of most of that other nonsense. tHAT'S the main reason i prefer them not that i hate the modern era or something but it's also a little more escape-y bc you're surrounded by most of the stuff in the modern era anyway so idk it's kinda boring to watch shows about it is best i can explain.
