bingo_aI stumbled on this random fanfic whilst browsing through LJ home and omg it was so awful just like every other one I've had the misfortune to read. The voice was...so wrong. Like Idec if this is popular bc of YA stuff or whatever, but "he walks (or) is walking down the hall" is not proper, that's not legit in any way and it sounds fucking stupid to boot. Second person choose your own adventure lol.
Second, the guys don't sound like guys either. There's always one coded female, like you could make them female and there would be no difference in the narrative. Even the guys who are supposed to be guys don't sound like guys lmao.
Oh OH and constantly changing referral tags. USE THEIR NAMES YA GIT. That sounds like the worst high school nerdboy fantasy where one character is referred to as he/him, his name, elf, the blond, the mage, the assassin and who knows what else JUST FOR ONE CHARACTER. No, seriously, no. Nine times out of ten you either use their name or their pronoun, not a bunch of other random crap.
My God how do people read this stuff lmao.
I see stuff like that and it aaaalmost makes me wish I posted publicly, but not enough don't worry. At least none of my characters would be effeminate, childish twats. And you'd get proper writing technique lol.
