moonlight thoughts
Mar. 5th, 2022 08:45 am Back into Moonlight again and i have thoughts. For the most part, this drama is pretty funny, but Ding Yuxi really carries it with his maladjusted weirdo of a character. Like, it seems fairly obvious that he's pursuing the editor girl, but he seems to not really know how to do that without losing his abrasive narcissistic mien, so he's using a bunch of manipulative tools that I imagine might backfire on him eventually, but right now. The main one is that he contacts her constantly on Weibo through an online personality that was anonymous at the start of the show, but that he quickly figured out was her after they met. However, SHE doesn't know that this Online character (Fox) is also her annoying author client. So she blithely tells him all sorts of things, which ofc he uses to manipulate her.
To further complicate things, Yuxi's character (istg i can't remember his name for the life of me) is besties with the girl's (Chu Li) ACTUAL favorite author. Like, when i say besties, they're basically in a pretty obvious bromance, which is cute all by itself tbh bc the other guy isn't at all maladjusted like Yuxi's character is. So I see some conflict coming up there, but it's probably fake conflict bc the other guy has some complicated relationship with an editor from another publishing house.
The things that bug are mainly that Chu Li seems unrealistically naive and cheerful and is one of those highkey childish FL that i don't particularly care for. But maybe that's necessary bc it's fairly obvious that a serious and mature woman would just irritate Yuxi's character, not that he's not irritated by Chu Li, but he also kinda likes her and seems to be confused about that lmao bc on one hand, he keeps trying to get close to her, but when she asks him to write an article for her magazine for shit pay, he tells her flatly that he won't do it. LIke I said, his character is maladjusted. His actions most of the time are indicative of someone with poor social skills lol. AND he has no self-awareness. When his bf essentially tells him that he's abrasive, he denies it and says that he's nice.
Ding Yuxi is really good at this character though bc he has a cat face and his expressions and whatnot are so funny. I can't explain it very well, but he just really embodies this character in every way.
I guess that's all i have to say about it lol. I really like Ding Yuxi though.
