Kenshin the Final that is.   I think this was maybe the longest one so far?  2 hours and 20 minutes and it didn't feel that long, like it could have been longer I think.   Right, so the basic premise is that Kenshin is back in Tokyo, getting used to peace, and his pals obvious believe he's eventually gonna marry Kaoru, etc.  BUT THEN. His past once again shows up to haunt him in the form of Enishi, the brother of his ex-wife.  Ex-wife???  Nah but I guess this is basically true. I can't fully recall that arc from the manga so idr if she was his wife, like if they got married or whateve,r but they obviously slept together and that's pretty much enough.  The twist though is that this girl was the fiancee of a guy that Kenshin killed and who gave him the first scar.

So anyway, Enishi is the head of some Shanghai mafia and has been planning revenge for ten years or whatever and he's got a bunch of other weirdos with him who also hate Kenshin.    Like all the other movies, they did things differently.  Enishi's pals launch an assault on Tokyo, so naturally people like Saito and whatnot are trying to stop him.  They literally brought back everyone from the Kyoto arc to pitch in, so Aoshi was there, and Misao, and eventually Seijiro too lol.  And that weird VK-looking weapons hunter guy.  Which, that was weird, there was a scene with him that went nowhere. It was implied that he fought Enishi, but we never see it and they never show what happened to him.  A random loose end.

The movie explodes in lots of fighting by the halfway point after backstory and whatnot.  All fight choreo for the last 50 years and probably the next 50 years can eat its heart out bc I've just never seen anything better. So it all mostly leads up to the Kenshin and Enishi fight, which is why I said that, bc that fight was insane.  While Kenshin is fighting Enishi, Misao and Saito are fighting some of his cohorts and beating them. Both fights were cool but the Enishi and Kenshin fight was kinda the magnum opus of the whole series. They killed the music and just let them go at it.

The ending was good and better than the manga tbh. All the acting, again, good.  But why tf did Sanno just get beat up in every single movie lmao like seriously.   Other random things, icb there was about 10 years between when i first saw Saito's actor and this one and he srsly looks the same. Japanese oyaji don't age man. Also, I think Sato Takeru embodied Kenshin more fully in this film bc he's more the actual right age of Kenshin. He was obviously a great choice, but I'm surprised they casted him so young in the first one.  Also, they've changed that Yahiko kid about three times lmao. The kid in the first one is like 20 now so there was a different kid for the Kyoto arc and then for this one bc that kid is like 17 sksks.

So anyway, I highkey HIGHKEY can't wait for the prequel bc I feel like then we'll see the real Kenshin, the dangerous Kenshin, plus there were certainly some hints of his relationship with Tomoe. I'm not gonna hold my breath, but i wanna see at least one ahem ~romantic~ scene.

I get Enishi's rage at Kenshin is bc he literally killed her, but hah, it felt like something else too. Like he was also pissed at his sister for falling for him in the first place. For example, the filthy sword line. I feel like that was major innuendo and he wasn't just referring to the sword that took her life hahaha.
