i just think that chen kun
May. 4th, 2021 07:27 am So like...Chen Kun was one of my earliest faves in Cpop and probably my first fave outside of Taiwan or HK. I'm not even sure how I got into him, but it was his music first just like with Ma Tianyu. I wanna say it was during the first bits of news and promo about Mulan bc I naturally wanted to know who was playing her love interest. I eventually watched several movies he was in bc Cdramas were not readily available at ALL back then, subbed or not subbed. The last drama he was in was in 2009, which is prob around when I started stanning, and he wasn't in one again until 2018 and Lost in 1949. So now, finding out that he was in a 70-ep drama in Rise of Phoenixes and then this Lost IN 1949 thing that i couldn't wait to pick up was like BLISS lmao. I didn't think I'd ever get to see him in a drama.
Even though he's in a decent amount of movies, some of which i need to catch up on for sure, i really like to see my faves in dramas. And so far both of these are really good. I'm 13 eps from finishing ROP and 23 from finishing Lost In 49. He even plays TWO characters in L49 lol and ofc does it flawlessly. Like, both characters are so different. It's funny when they have to interact with each other though like the different tricks they use. Chen Kun is just an amazing actor. And I also love his face. I remember my exact first comment after seeing a movie with him finally, I was like, he's so attractive I can't look at him for long lskdfldk. Still true, but more like i can't look away. Idk what old me was thinking back then skskss.
That's why, as I'm watching the 49 dram, I'm tryna keep in mind that this girl who is currently holding him at arm's length has valid reasons like her husband just died a few months back and she's pregnant with his child bc otherwise it boggles the mind that anyone could resist Chen Kun lmao. This drama is interesting though bc I kinda expected a more serious spy drama with more working of the dual roles, but tbh what it really is, is a slice of life drama set against a very volatile historical backdrop. There's all this serious shit going on, but the main focus is really on the Lin and Qiao families.
My observation now that I've gotten into Chinese dramas, i.e. ones from the Mainland, is that they do a really good job of not being full of filler despite being 35-45 mins per ep and often with an average of 40+ eps. That was my biggest issue with Kdramas and Taiwan dramas back in the day. I did watch a decent amount of HK dramas and they also seemed better at avoiding filler. Filler to me is anything that puts the main story on hold and those episodes could be omitted without having a major effect on the overall drama.
ANyway, let me just make a list of the Chen Kun stuff I want to watch and can realistically find:
- Chongqing Hot Pot (movie)
- Mojin the Lost Legend (movie)
- Snow Girl and Dark Crystal (movie)
- Bends (movie)
- The Knot (movie)
- West Lake Moment (movie)
I would love to think I could find the dramas: Remembrance of Dreams Past and Endless Love but i seriously doubt it lol. That list is sadly not very long LE SIGH.
