and today it's kpop

The two biggest Kpop fandoms, or well, used to be the two biggest, i just witnessed some examples of their stupidity. First of all, EXO lmao. Their fandom is clearly literally made up of nothing but solo fans who hate every other member. I went to some old accts i used to follow, who were PCY fans, but they were also Sehun fans bc they liked SC and all of that, well guess what?  Now they hate everyone except PCY. So basically, if any fan of any other member says even the slightest negative thing about PCY they go all ballistic and attack whoever that member is. I mean, i'm sorry HOW DERANGED IS THIS. It's completely and absurdly deranged. Meanwhile, you got Sehun fans running around calling PCY a cheater at every opportunity and look at my last post, who cares? Who cares if he really cheated? How is that your business?  WEIRDOS.

Then, in the other corner competing for the mental illness champion of the year, we have BTS fans trending a hashtag about how BTS is bigger than the rest of Kpop, which on the surface is nbd, but if you look at all the quotes, what they're celebrating is that only BTS has the rights to the golden gate of Western acceptance and not the rest of lowly Kpop as fucking IF Western pop is better than Kpop lmao don't make me laugh. I've noticed that in that fandom though. They are very Western centric and they pride themselves on always saying that BTS has transcended the lowly level of other Asian pop and made it into the vaunted and celebrated superior Western sphere, the implication naturally being that anything Western is superior than anything Asian.

It's actually really gross and one of many reasons i hate that fandom.   OH and here, this is rich, they're also tryna say that the hashtag isn't xenophobic bc Koreans also used it and said BTS is above Kpop. Yeah lol i've seen Knetz comments a lot of them have a sugoi amount of internalized racism where they TOO believe Western music is superior and BTS gaining Western attention is a sign that they're BETTER than other Korean music. This is not a good defense, sorry.

In other news, Deng Lun was convicted of tax evasion so idk what will happen to the new Ni Ni drama. Ffffffffff. I was lowkey looking forward to that.  Maybe they can refilm his parts and replace him with someone I actually like, like Bai Jingting lmao.

Also saw some Pann post where Knetz were complaining about the age gap in some drama. I looked it i up and it's fucking FOUR YEARS. FOUR!!  That's literally a freshman and senior in university kinda thing. Y'all age gap pearl clutchers are getting WAY out of hand.

song and dance

First I'll review Butter lol. It was terrible. The MV was cringe af and Suga, as usual, had 8 seconds. I'm not even sure Hobi had lines???? I saw him once dancing and that's it. The English was barely understandable, it wasn't catchy at ALL.  Ugly song that doesn't deserve to be mentioned in the same breath as Dynamite. I liked the latter immediately even with the MV, which was honestly nice and summery and I watched it a few times.  This was annoying candy pop crap. And it made me depressed to think about good their old stuff was and this is what they put out now all to get kudos from the West. Gross.

Second, I finished You Are My Hero.  Overall, I loved it. One of the best romcom or romance dramas whatever you want to call them, that I've seen. I'm somewhat surprised to see people always saying that Chinese dramas are too long and like, IDTS???  I mean, i can finish a 40-ep drama with ease bc they never drag. YAMH went through so many twists and turns and the only part that was a tiny bit dull was the earthquake stuff. The ending, let me get the cons out of the way first, was also a bit weak and dull, which I find is the weak spot of Chinese drams. They never seem to know how to make a real strong satisfying ending. Forward Forever was the best in that area I've seen recently.  The ending wasn't sad or anything like that, it was just kinda weak and did nothing with the strong chemistry between the leads.

Now for the good stuff. It was genuinely funny and very little of the comedy was derived from cringe-y things and second-hand embarrassment. They did a good job mixing in the SWAT scenes with the medical stuff (which isn't at ALL gripping to me, but maybe for others), and they also did a good job finding plausible scenarios to mesh the two, i.e. to have Mi Ka and Kelei work on something together. Which reminds me, the climax event before the actual ending was fantastic.

Here's the other thing that amazed me about this show though. The main couple was actually a good example of a healthy relationship. Wow!  There are so many toxic and irritating relationships in dramas where one or both of the FL and ML are constantly misunderstanding each other and playing games of manipulation. It's the most frustrating fucking thing and after i saw several of those, it turned me off from trying many more romance dramas bc i hate that shit.  But these two actually talked about things and admitted when they wrong!  Le GASP.  The place where this really comes out is when these two sisters from Kelei's childhood show up and try to drive a wedge between him and Mi Ka bc the older one wants to marry him, and nothing they did worked bc neither Kelei nor Mi Ka overreacted to things or got mad at each other.

Lol like I seriously kept expecting one of the stupid typical misunderstandings in romcoms and there were none!  At least, not between the lead couple. Between the second couple, yes, and they were annoying to me most of the time, but fortunately, they didn't get a ton of screentime so it was ignorable. I skipped a few of their scenes lol.

Acting was also really good. Nothing too OTT. And ye gods I am SO impressed with Bai Jingting. His acting is so steady and in character and he's never over dramatic. I'm probably gonna watch that new one with him too even though i have no idea if it's my type of thing or not just bc he's so entertaining.  He was absolutely perfect as Kelei.

Now i have to wallow in my show hole feels for a bit. I assume I'll work on finishing Lost in 49 next bc that's the closest one. That one sucks bc it means i will be running out of Chen Kun things to watch. TAT

now what

Idk why there are so many Mygs who seem to also bias Jimin like just ewww. I can't stand him for so many reasons. Gonna have to start blocking his name on Twt. The superior Mygs are the ones who either bias Suga alone or have Hobi as their second. Like me. :))))  Been thinking about being in an Agust D, BTS kinda mood here recently and I think I legit am today lol. Maybe it's bc the D2 anniversary is coming up.   I'm not even slightly interested in their new English song like...ok Dynamite was fun and unexpectedly cute but did I say i wanted more of that????  NO i did not.   I forgot that tryna stan BTS is just disappointing now so lemme back off.

Currently having nothing in Kpop to look forward to other than the hidden possibilities of D3, H2, and Junho releasing something again now that he's out of the military. Although...i think i read that 2PM is also working on an album. That would be cool. I like them mostly.   Just uninterested in everything else.

Anyway. Back to drama rambling.  The earthquake arc of YAMH finished with a dramatic running out of oxygen in a cave scene lol.  Now the two leads are agreeing to date. And so far it's refreshing that neither one of them are listening to the shit advice given by their besties.  I hate when dramas do that.  Like, the two leads clearly like each other a lot. They know it, we know it, everyone knows it, but then they inexplicably start playing games with each other that leads to misunderstandings.  Usually bc friends advised them to be coy.  So far, in this, their friends are giving them this advice but they aren't taking it lol.

Nevertheless, there are still over 20 eps left so idk where it's going next.  Mostly watched that and Lost in 1949 over the weekend. The latter I'm about 14 eps away from the end.   I need to force myself to finish ROP and KH though bc then my currently watching list will be down to four. At this point I expect to finish YAMH and L49 before touching the Four or Longest Day again.

hao le

Lol i'm back. But I'm done with Kpop so anyone happening upon this journal, just forget everything that comes before this post bc i don't care anymore. I'm still a fan of some random solo artists and sorta girl groups, but I really don't care about boygroups any longer. EXO is ruined for me thanks to the traitors who joined another group and all the stupid fans who supported them so bye bye lah. I briefly considered going back to BTS since I love Suga still, but nah, that group is ruined for me too bc they no longer make the music that made me listen to them. Now, rapline gets hardly any lines, esp Sope, and their vocalists are still trash af. I liked BE for the most part and I guess it's good that they're not pots and pans like most boygroups out there but nah, I only like Suga and Hobi.

Anyway.

Decided more or less to go back to an older fandom: Cpop and Chinese entertainment in general. Of course, the ifandom for it is as dumb as ever but just in a different way. The landscape has massively shifted from being focused on Taiwan and Hong Kong to the mainland, but that's not all that surprising when you consider the political situation. The CCP has way more power than it did 10-12 years ago, which is when I first got into it. HK is basically irrelevant now on their own. And Taiwan is not much better. Stars in both places have to work in the Mainland in order to have work at all.

I'm not a fan of how this went down necessarily, but at the same time, I won't lie that dramas and movies being higher quality and more available means that I get to watch more of them. Bc I'm not just done with Kpop, I'm done with Korean dramas as well. I watched a buttload in 2016 and 2017 and just got sick of how a lot of them were the same stupid romcoms.  Japanese dramas I will still watch occasionally if I find an interesting one that's been subbed. Bc Japan has the problem of wanting to keep all their shit out of gaijin hands.

Reopening this so i can rant about things that are too annoying to rant about on TWitter. And Cpop Twitter is really stupid and annoying bc they're all newbs who got into it through either Yixing or other Chinese EXO members, or survival shows, OR that stupid Untamed drama. Don't get me started on the faux BL in Cdramas that fujoshis are ridiculously obsessed with lmao. They're such misogynists bc the only thing they want is no women. The dramas themselves could EASILY be construed as simple friendship only. Censors won't allow anything else so that's literally all they are. There's more "romance" in American buddy cop movies. But yeah, it gives MALE actors an easy way to get coin and popularity as they then move onto bigger and better things lmao. They even have a slang for it: going out to sea. That's all it is to them.

Dumb girlies.

My other rant is how much i fucking hate Yixing stans. I don't dislike him personally. But his STANS seem to think he's God's gift to Cpop and his music is showstopping never been done before when it is literally NOT. There are several Cpop artists who have been doing what he's doing for longer. Like Gong for example. They think mixing hiphop and electro beats with Chinese traditional music is new. They also think he can rap. I can't stand they asses. I have to refrain from dragging Yixing bc he doesn't really deserve it but ye gods his fans are insufferable.

oh hi

How did I actually go an entire month without posting here?  Lmao.  Countdown's even out, long out and everything.  There's not much new in fandom tbh.  There was this joke going around different Kpop fandoms about not liking Kpop only x-group pop, because of the dumb BTS fandom saying that and adding that other groups were getting a free ride from BTS's popularity lmao yeah uh huh.  I don't even like old Kpop, but your group wouldn't be around period if it weren't for those groups putting it on people's radar in the first place.

On the other hand, I've seriously become far less interested in every other Kpop fandom save EXO so other than the general stupidity of the whole comment, I'm not entirely lying.  I lie a little bit, because I'm still very interested in Pentagon at least, but most other groups?  I can't say I would get all that excited for comeback news at this point.

Oh I know the thing really annoying me lately. The freaking fact that both Pentagon and Junho have released Japanese albums and they're impossible to get. Especially Pentagon's.  Like, it's literally NOWHERE and yet it apparently did fairly well on the charts????  Wtf Japan.  Meanwhile, Countdown was out everywhere at like midnight lol.

I also love very much that EXO is one of only TWO artists performing at the closing ceremony of the Olympics and that second artist is NOT BTS. HAH.  And Baekhyun sang the national anthem and sounded effing amazing.  Imagine another group's weak-ass singers doing that lmao.  Embaaaarassing.

Sorry I hate their fandom so much that it really has transferred to the group now.  Not them personally ofc, but in a dismissive way.  I lowkey revel in anything that upsets their fandom basically.  I still love Suga though. :x

Outside of Kpop, I found out two of my favorite rappers released albums last year after having disappeared forEVER. Fana and Ignito.  Both were good, but Fana's was the best.

feed the fire

I lowkey feel like EXOL won't ever forgive THAT fandom for trying to put out our "light". Maybe I'm falling into it too, but i didn't even appreciate Soompi putting out that thing about BTS and EXO having contact or whatever.  Like, that's nice and all, that's not the fucking point. BTS fandom is VILE and they don't deserve anything.  And don't try to tell me it's just a minority, no it clearly is not.  It's both ifans AND Kfans.  If anything, they're calling down karma on their own group.  Which isn't fair to them as I bear them no ill will, but you know, as one of my mutuals put it, it's really hard to separate the two at this point.  It's sad that they've brought it to that.  But you made that bed.

In any case, some random Hyunseung news.  Yet again, one of his Japan things was canceled, same random vague reason.  Then it turns out he's dating some gymnast girl, which that's cool.  At least he has something to do lmao.  How did she find him in the dungeon though?  Also on the Cube front, Idk if I said it here, but Pentagon's Japan album appears to be almost all original this time, only one rehash with Violet.  Tempted to put it in with my EXO order.

I'm soooooo pressed that there's like four weeks until that album comes out.  Because I already know it's awesome.  The remaining songs, I heard a preview and they all sound amazing.  No real ballads except Cosmic Railway, which is like the quintessential Jpop ballad, so not much of a ballad honestly.

Oh yeah, I watched all of EXO's eoy stuff.  Took me forever lmao. Yo nice skirt.  Anyway ahhh it was all good.  Camerawork, mostly bad, except for the last one, which might have been MBC Idek, the one in the bar, that was good.  Universe perf was good and I see they already got their first win on it too.

Ok, I know Baek has the edge in my stanning, but sometimes I'm seriously not sure because Chen is so fluffing hot and talented.  ALl I know is that SM better give them the duet they've been asking for for basically ever. :<  Even if it's just Chen guesting on Baek's solo (a few times).  SOMETHING.

Entertain you baby

Lol so part of me thinks i should care about this BTS in America thing, but I really don't???  And the main reason is that I dislike this narrative that American validation is necessary for a musical artist or honestly any piece of entertainment to be recognized as "good" or "worth something".  Regardless of what these stans say too, that IS playing a part in their excitement.  Like, they can't wait to be all, LOOK AT MY KPOP GROUP BEING RECOGNIZED BY AMERICA.  And all that does to me is further the narrative that American entertainment and approval is all that counts for anything and I reject that completely.

So yeah, I don't care.  The one good thing I suppose is just having an Asian artist get exposure since the American music industry period is STRANGELY devoid of Asians.  But I'm cynical and I'm quite sure there will be some kind of racist backlash on that.

And so I'm just sitting here listening to EXO after watching Suho's teaser and ignoring the people freaking out on Twitter.  And it's also not that BTS is not my fave or whatever.  Jackson was there too and I still wasn't watching for him, though I'm sure he was cool af bc Jackson is just cool af no matter where he goes.

The main thing is that I just really don't give a crap about American entertainment and American music awards, so it doesn't excite me at all.  Why would I want my fave to be "validated" by an industry that I hate?  Doesn't make sense,

Haven't really watched anything new lately and I need to continue with Master Key though the latest ep with Jackson and Jinyoung, plus the one with Chanyeol.  Idk since I haven't made myself watch anything other than music lately, it's hard to commit to shows lmao.

Oh so a full front view of Baek during Ko Ko Bop came out and uh, that was interesting. 8D  No, but srsly, I've seen a lot of stuff and that has got to be the most suggestive thing the two of them have done together.  Playboy doesn't really compare lmao.

ahah that fandom

I have TWO hilarious BTS fandom things to enjoy of late.  The first is that they lost a shitton of votes in MAMA when illegal votes were checked so now EXO's winning everything lmao.  LIke, I don't even care much, I've only voted a few times, but it's still hilarious whenever they get taken down.  And no Idc about them appearing on some American TV thing, I literally could not care less about American entertainment so that means nothing to me.

Anyway, the other thing is ok, probably not exclusive to BTS fans bc I can fully imagine other fandoms doing the same thing, but so basically some American indie rapper tweeted how much she wanted Jungkook's D and the fans lost their shit and drove her off Twitter.  But what's funny about this is how fucking hypocritical these fans are.  Like don't pretend you're not sitting on  your ass writing smutty gay fanfics or smutty reaction thirst posts on Tumblr about this guy.

I mean, for the record, I don't really think posting that kind of thing in a public forum is classy at all.  Imagine, for example, if it were a guy posting about how much he wanted to fuck some girl group member.  So I'm not on her side at all, but I've said it a million times, I hate hypocrisy and I have no sympathy on any level for these stupid ifans who both sexualize and infantilize idols.  It's weird and gross and if she made them uncomfortable, then I'm rolling in it bc they deserve it.

Idk I'm not here for making idols in any way out to be more than or less than human.  They're not objects and they're not gods.  I'm not holding them to any different standard so like, if I wouldn't @ some random  person with thirsty statements, I wouldn't say them in public while mentioning the idol by name.  It's just crass. Like, keep that shit to yourself.

Istg all these losers just want attention and validation these days.

is it October yet

As if there weren't enough comebacks on the way here in October, a bunch more were more or less confirmed last night.  I think I saw Seventeen, Taemin (for like the third time lol), SF9 and Monsta X.  Oh whoops and now I've just seen UP10TION is coming back as well lol.  Plus Twice and Exid are supposed to comeback soon as well.  Tbh, other than Taemin, I most want a CBX comeback ahahah.  But considering SM has pushed Taemin's back like three times now, Idek.

So Twitter is workshopping 280 characters and they plan to roll it out to everyone and I can't wait.  It's so annoying how using Chinese, Japanese or Korean you can get across way more complex thoughts but in English you're usually stuck mutilating words or grammar and/or writing multiple tweets.  People are actually mad about this for some reason though.  Like why?  Who's forcing you to use 280 characters?  What's it to you if other ppl want to use them?  So annoying.

As far as I know, the hxc BTS fans stan the album without reservations, I think it's the casual fans like moi who hate where they've gone with Wings and now this one.  This person was all, they've done soft and poppy before.  Ok, yes they have, but the vast majority of their disco is rap-heavy.  Furthermore, the soft and poppy is less the issue vs how they don't have the vocal ability to pull that off in any way shape or form.  And people keep arguuuuuing about this, which is hilarious. I mean, that's nice that you like it, but it doesn't change the fact that it's WEAK.

Also some people, like moi, hate soft and poppy.  Because that's honestly what it is, fluffy and twee.  EXO has ballads or softer songs, kinda, but I guess bc they have such powerful vocals it's hard to classify them the same.  Combining weak and airy falsetto with shrill music is just literally headache-inducing.  There's only two Exo songs I actually hate and those are Wolf bc it's noisy and awful, and Playboy bc it sounds like a Jonghyun solo song.  It doesn't fit them at all.  He should have kept that song for himself or even for SHINee, keep it away from EXO lol.

One of the funniest things to me is when fans get all suspicious of inside info.  It's like they don't believe there's anyone close to idols who know stuff.  Which is honestly a stupid, naive position to take.  If I had a dollar for all the things ifans doubted in VK only to later have them proven true.  You figure, all the staff and stylists that work with multiple idols on a regular basis, plus have access to information networks among others who work with them.  It's not fucking hard to believe that they know stuff.  To me it's way less likely that they would sit there and make up detailed stories about each member.  Not to mention, some of the stuff I read, considering what happened later, it rings even more true.  Fandom loves to bury this shit and ignore it though lol.

I'm actually pretty dang good at reading people and I've had my assessments proven correct multiple times and most of what I read from these inside info people seems really accurate.  Fans really need to understand that the person you're seeing on camera is not the same person off-camera.  There are things you can look for for clues to their real personalities, but it's definitely not 100% what you're seeing on camera.

Like a hot cocoa in the winter

Only I don't like hot cocoa just like I don't like BTS vocal line's insistence on freaking using falsetto.  I admit I'm going into this with high levels of annoyance but I'll try to be objective.  I kinda like DNA, parts of it, but it seems to go nowhere.  Best of Me continues with the falsetto to the point where i'm like....are they incapable of using anything else?  I mean, it didn't used to bug me as much bc there was more rapping, but lately it seems they've given more lines to the vocalists and it's just....not working for me.

The frickin falsetto is honestly hurting my ears.  Wings was hella disappointing, but this is just...

I feel like...Bye BTS I hardly knew ye lol.  Ok, not hardly as I've been listening to them for a little while now, but they're going in a different direction and I don't like it.  I mean, for starters, are they really going to lean lines towards their vocalists when they're so freakin' weak?  That actually makes me kinda mad.  I'll just wait patiently for more mixtapes from Suga.

Even Mic Drop is boring compared to their usual.  Ugh.

Final word: repetitive, autotuned, shrill 1/5 would not repeat

Me and BTS

Are actually not really a thing.  I like Suga and I mostly like their music, but that's about where it ends.  I can't really get into ~them~ as a group.  They come off very extra and fake to me and I won't lie, I don't like the Western hobnobbing and lobbying for that sort of popularity.  I also won't lie that their fandom is VERY annoying and especially the group that jumped in after they appeared on Billboard.

Contrast that with EXO who are definitely not lobbying for Western approval and suddenly their fandom seems largely sane in comparison.  But, as much as I tried not to be, I got sucked into them as a group too.  I like most of their members and especially stan ChenBaekXi lol. I can't really deny it anymore.  It took three years to get the same amount of BTS plays as I now have of EXO and three years to have twice as many GOT7 plays.  Even Pentagon hasn't quite matched that lol.

I'm sort of glad I ended up more into EXO in the end though lol.  Even if partially bc my former stalker is a BTS fan, and a Billboard jumper besides.  I didn't know that though until I had more or less already made my choice.   It ultimately has way more to do with them as a group and their concepts, which I'm generally 100% not into.  They're constantly going for soft, fluffy concepts and it annoys me so much.  Like, that is my #1 dislike with Kpop boygroups.  I'm glad GOT7 said they'd never do another cute concept, Pentagon probably won't either since that's not Cube's style and obviously EXO doesn't do that, I mean they're ~aliens~ ffs.

I'll take some made-up fantasy shit over soft and fluffy any day of the week lol.

in things I think

I think the Chinese tension is doing some interesting things to groups with Chinese members. First, JYPE took Jackson out of all further GOT7 promotions in Japan.  He's also getting a shitton of hate from Chinese fans, but I would bet money that's related to him calling out shippers.  Either way, his position in GOT7 suddenly seems really tenuous.

Then there's Lay.  His situation seems a little more obvious to me.  My guess is that SM is going to keep him solo.  He's not gonna bail on his contract and stuff like the other ones did, but I bet SM sees that he can make them money promoting solo in the Chinese market so he's probably going to de facto leave EXO.  I think it's funny the people who are burying their heads in the sand about it too like, shouldn't you be prepared?  The writing is kinda on the wall lol.

I mean, he's freaking filming an MV in Korea apparently and yet he obviously did not promote with EXO on the repackage.  Idk it seems so obvious to me lol.

All my top bias groups have Chinese members so it's interesting how this is playing out.

Oh yeah and my gosh BTS is really starting to annoy me.  Now they're working with some douchebro Western group for their new album and it's just like...srsly.  And their fans keep acting like this is something to brag about.  Well, some fans, not all fans.  Like Omona for example.  They need to quit being so reasonable lately lol it's interrupting my hate.

it's comeback time

So I've made it through the EXO, Pentagon and BAP comebacks lol. First, I suck at MVs. I just...never find them that gripping. Even from my favorite groups. I might watch them around five times AT MOST. Stages are my thing so I'm mostly waiting for a chance to watch those. But in terms of the music and whatnot...

EXO obviously only had three songs. Power was not exactly what I expected, but my gosh it was sticky af. LIke, I was barely paying attention to it when I watched the MV but it was in my head afterwords. Nevertheless, it's not my favorite. That title goes to Boomerang, which is the kind of song like Ko Ko Bop that I can binge on. Whhich, lol, apparently a certain section of the fandom *coughomonacough* hates Ko Ko Bop. Somehow I think it has very little to do with the actual song, but I digress. Sweet Lies is apparently the fandom fave and lmao, no. It's so boring. It's not even Chill levels. It's no different than half their disco of ballads that I skiiip. It's sad, bc they obviously have some really good vocalists in Baekhyun and Chen, but they honestly don't do a good job showcasing them.

Unlike Pentagon who have Hui and Jinho and their ballads typically do NOT feature overuse of falsetto. So their MV was honestly boring and some combo of Save Me, Not Today and at least a couple of GOT7 MVs lol. I've seen it before. The song was...nice. I really liked 오늘까지만 the most on the album, followed by the rapline's song.  I'm waiting for some better stages, but right now I'm underwhelmed by the choreo too. =/

BAP's single was solid.  Didn't bother watching the MV but I'll definitely be watching the stages.  Oh yeah just watched the Honeymoon one, super epic.  Jongup and Yongguk dude.

In boring things...( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)  Those BTS teasers lol.

Tick tick boom boom bout to blow

Since I haven't kept up with EXO (lol no shit) I just realized last night that the K-version of Transformer obviously doesn't have Xiumin or Chen so I'm just listening to the Chinese versions of that one album right now.  I might like the Chinese version of Transformer better lol.  I just...really like Xiumin ok lol.  Especially when he gets that really rough-sounding voice tone.  Hnnnng.  He seems to have it more often in Chinese.  Also, Tao and Lay's lines, lol it's easy to tell the difference between their lines and the other two.  Xiumin sounds slightly better than Chen though.  I keep trying to explain my attraction to Xiumin but I really can't.  I keep thinking Baek is my fave but I don't think he isssssssssssssss.

The BTS album was finally announced and amg it sounds so pretentious already.  I hated like half of Wings so Idk.  I don't have a good feeling.  They need to stick to rap-heavy stuff bc their vocal line is shrill and annoying.  I mean, I'm interested in their comeback, but only on a very shallow level lol.  I never follow their stages and rarely watch their MVs.  There's been absolutely nothing about Pentagon's album though other than the showcase announcement so Idek what's going on there, but omg it's CUBE.  That's pretty much what they do.  They didn't announce CLC's comeback until like the last minute and then took forever, like right before release, for the details.  You'd think they'd treat Pentagon better, but apparently not.

And I've pretty much given up on Hyunseung getting a comeback le sigh.  HE's probably just gonna end up in the military. =/

In drama things, I finished Bad Guys and Bride of Habaek and I really want to get back to Sparrow, but now I'm interested in Task Force 38 and Prince's drama is on Viki and there was something else I saved on Viki too the last time I was there.  Plus I still want to go back to Mystic Nine besides, and there's a few J-dramas too that I wanted to watch before the end of the year.  Ugh dramas lol.  There's too many. It's no wonder I never get around to watching movies anymore.  My plan to watch list is so huge I'll never get to the end of it.

ETA - the new Victon mini is kinda boring, no real bops.  Otoh, I listened to the new Will Pan album yesterday and honestly thought it was pretty good, despite the weird plagiarism controversy from one of his songwriters.

do you have any idea how stupid we are?

That's fandom lol.  The thing is, I regret to inform you that I really don't honestly care what an idol says or does 90% of the time, 95% maybe.  Only real exceptions I make are criminal things.  And presumably those things are gonna end his career anyway lol.  So you will never shame me into disliking one of my favorite groups or idols due to something they said that you didn't like.  DOn't even try.

People need to understand that following groups or being a fan of groups/idols does NOT mean that you support everything they say and do unconditionally.  It also doesn't mean that you need to hate on them every two seconds when they fuck up either.  That's just virtue signaling half the time anyway.

But anyway! My ideal Kpop fall release scenario is 2/3 complete.  Pentagon and Exo coming back in early September, just need GOT7 to announce theirs now.  Depending on what Pentagon is doing, I can always wait for GOT7 when it comes to ordering anyway.  I do care about BTS lol, but not as much as those three.  Me and BTS are weird. On one hand, I really like their music and I really like Suga, but the rest of them and their group dynamic and concepts and all that, bore me.  I can't get into them at ALL.  I also don't find their stages or choreo gripping either.  Maybe it's also bc I hate their fandom, I'm not really sure.  I'm way closer to stanning EXO at this point than BTS.  I'm not even sure if I know all their names tbh.  I just know a lot of them start with J lmao.  And I probably couldn't pick anyone except Suga and Rapmon out of a lineup.  Otoh, I DO know all the EXO members all of a sudden and I think I could identify all of them too lol.  Ofc it helps, that I like five out of what, nine?  I kinda like Chanyeol too.  That is, I like his raps the best, but personally he sounds a little bit like a jerk lol.

In other random things, I had a smug the other day when I saw this person whining on Tumblr about how they kept seeing posts from Kpop fans about how real people shipping is disgusting and it was boohoo affecting her writing.  Like...lmao.  You should feel guilty and gross bish.  Those are called NORMAL feelings.  Because it is, sorry not really to say.  This one person I used to know, who lowkey stalked me, was this big fanficcer for Jrock, but then years later I ran into her somewhere else and she actually grew a conscience and said she no longer posted real person fic publicly.  Even though I still think she's trash, I had like 1% respect for her in that moment.

That's the very least you can do.  In the connected age where all these idols search for themselves online, it's really honestly disgusting and disrespectful.  If I were them, I'd be all, wow what fuckin' creeps.  Actually, would bet money they DO think that, but then they're all polite like GOT7 and just ask people to stop.  Just know, forreal, that's most likely what your oppas think of you.

touch it touch it baby

Ok, so I really do believe that Hyunseung's comeback is out there somewhere.  Idk why they're taking so long or why they're not updating anyone, but there's bits and bobs of hints in places, including HS's own Insta.  So I do think it's coming.  I'm just super hoping it's a real full album.  I don't like reading about all these 89-liners getting their draft notices lately.

So I watched a few Exo Ko Ko Bop stages and honestly the choreo is not gripping at all.  But one of the shows had translated lyrics and omo I had no idea they were all fully of sexin like that lol.  I mean, the song definitely has that feel, but there's plenty of Kpop songs that have that feel and then the lyrics are super ambiguous or tame.  It's weird that no one talked about it vs Vixx's Black Out, but I kinda bet that the translation has something to do with it.  Like, it maybe sounds way more explicit to someone who knows Korean vs how it got translated.  Kinda like when people kept translating Agust D as literally going to Hong Kong when that line was slang for being turned on.  The subs by Big Hit were actually accurate vs all the fan translators.

Speaking of BTS though.  I'm always conflicted on them you know bc of how annoying their fans are and plus all these recent fans who obviously just saw them when they appeared on the stupid American awards show.  For the most part I just like Suga bc of what a little shit he is lol.  Well and I love his rapping too.  The one thing I do like I guess is that they seem to make a lot of old KPop fans salty due to their unstoppable popularity.  Old Kpop fans are always annoying me bc they act like their era was better and that the new era needs to have respect for the old.  Yeah, no.  I'm very aware of the old era of Kpop, but I didn't like it.  Even some of the groups I like now that were on the fringe then like 2PM, SHINee, B2ST, etc. I still don't like their oldest albums.  Plus the rapping in all three of those groups is largely awful.

Tbh aside from all the electro, bassy, dance-oriented stuff now, it's the emphasis on rapping that made me a fan of this newer era.  Apparently that bugs some people.  I've seen threads where people were whining about how there's too much rapping in new groups.

In unrelated crack speculation...lol, today I was thinking WHAT IF, as in plot twist!  What if Hyuna decided not to comeback solo and instead wanted to do more Triple H?  I remember she did that with Trouble Maker one year.  I would actually really love that though.  I've played the heck out of that mini.  And besides, in terms of their sound, Edawn and Hui are my favorites in Pentagon and in Triple H, you get to hear way more of them.  I just thought they meshed really well.  Hui with his strong, soaring voice and Edawn and Hyuna with their really unconventional chipmunk voices lol.  So yus, gimme mo of dat.

Oh my lord

I'm dying.  AKP actually wrote a freaking OP-ED at whether BTS should go to the Super Bowl halftime show.  Like, first of all, this would never in a million years even HAPPEN so why you would waste actual energy writing it is seriously way beyond me.  This is so absurd I can't even quantify it.  It's kinda like someone writing an op-ed about what would happen if dragons existed.

OH NO WAIT. THAT'S CALLED A FANTASY STORY.  That's exactly what imagining BTS at a Super Bowl halftime show is.  I really hope the person that wrote that is not an American, because if they are...lol @ their complete lack of common sense and departure from reality.

The only artists that appear at Super Bowl halftime shows are BIG artists with a wide appeal.  BTS appeared on one fucking award show to collect a social media award.  That is not a big artist with broad appeal in AMERICA by any stretch of the imagination.  Like oh my g-d, yay Kpop and everything, but don't be fucking delusional.

And I'm saying this as a Kpop and BTS fan who hates American music.  But I'm also a realist and there's no point in writing a fantasy what-if scenario about something that will literally never happen.

hold up baby jamkkan...

Finally watched the last episode of Tunnel and ok, so it was a pretty fun ride, but honestly, it really was't THAT amazing.  Not like certain tools on MDL think anyway lol.  First of all, the ending.  They never show whether he catches the killer in the past and it's like...how is everything going to turn out the same?  I mean, presumably it would turn out better because the girl wouldn't end up being adopted and all that and she grows up knowing Sunjae, but on the other hand, how likely is she to get interested in....ok, nevermind I solved my own conundrum.  It's easy enough to assume that the killer gets caught back then and then nothing else really matters.  The future events won't happen and only Kwang Ho will remember that they happened at all.

I GUESS that's fine lol, but Idk, I can't help thinking it would have been better if he'd stayed in the future, present, whatever.  Time travel is so confusing lmao.  But see that's the thing, it honestly didn't factor a whole lot into the plot and that's why it's just a pretty good crime drama with a fantasy twist that allowed for those a-ha moments throughout.  Idk, I rated it good, but there were a lot of things that annoyed me about it ultimately.  I really liked the lead actors though, they were both really good and "bromantic" without being ridiculous.

Anyway, on to Lookout.  Or at least, I will be on to Lookout just as soon as DF puts out the new eps.  They really dropped the ball on bothering to sub Tunnel there at the end.  I watched like the last four episodes on Viki.

I've said before that I honestly don't give a crap about Kpop or Jrock or any other Asian groups getting awards here because I don't care about the American music industry and therefore I don't care about its awards either.  But I was completely unsurprised to see BTS get dragged by American music fans for winning whatever it is they won.  That same thing happened when Psy was at some award show.  People were all, who are these fucking Asians?  Isn't that the most interesting part of it though?  The vitriol is really aimed at Asians specifically.  Because I remember European artists, even ones who could barely speak English being at these shows (back when I gave a crap) and no one gave them shit.  Even Latin artists, same thing.  But Asians, OMG THIS CAN'T HAPPEN.

I see you America.

ah um ah

I honestly don't watch many MVs and I also rarely closely follow comebacks, unless it's a group I'm REALLY into, see: GOT7 lol. I'm more likely to watch the lives. The other thing, is when it comes to BTS, I only really know Rapmon, Suga and V by face lol. This is all preface to the other night when I randomly decided to just let Youtube play all their MVs in a row. I think I still missed a few, but I saw most of them. Tbh, none of them are that gripping, but since I like the songs, at the very least that was worth it.

First thing, the Boy in Luv MV hahah. I wanted to see if Omona had a cow about that, but apparently in 2014, people were less stupid about MV content. There were only a few twats complaining about "violence" or whatever. Today, come on, it would be 300 comments of BTS is canceled or something. Well, maybe not 300, bc I suspect that's why Omona's traffic has gone down. People got sick of SJW bullshit at every turn. 50 comments, ahahah.

Lol then I was watching War of Hormone I think it was, and I was like, dang, who's the cute kid in the red and black sweater. Then a thought occurred to me and I was like, oh man, plz don't be Jungkook, plz don't be...oh crap it's Jungkook. Yeah he was like 16 or 17 there. :x Fuck Kpop lol. Actually, that was the most amusing part of one of those old threads, was all the noona guilt. Like, you have to get over that or your music choices become really limited if you can't like any artists more than five years younger or something. But honestly, I know a lot of people like that.

In general, I don't really find Jungkook attractive though.  My only bias in BTS is really Suga.  Just, in that MV lol.  Kpop just likes to remind you every now and then what a sinner you are.

Anyway, in drama news...I really love Suspicious Partner with Ji Chang Wook, but I'm not sure how I feel about Master of the Mask.  The acting is all good and everything, but I have NFI where the story is going.  It almost seems like it's being made up on the fly.  There's just a lot of running around, screaming and groveling lmao.  And poor L is constantly being tortured.  So yeah, I'm underwhelmed so far.  Tunnel is allegedly ending this weekend, but if DF and Viki are all stupid slow about subbing them I'mma be salty.

♪ so far away ♪

I think my favorite thing about this site is the random icon option when you post, otherwise it's frankly quite shitty in every way.  People loved to complain about every new thing Livejournal did all the time, but this site is essentially what an old, unupdated LIvejournal looks like.  It seemed like there used to be more icon slots too, but now you have to pay and it's like hahah yeah right.  Oh the other thing I love is this skull mood theme and the one where it has a coffee.

So I'm almost done with Goblin, one more episode to go.  I honestly can't believe people were complaining about the girl's acting, like seriously?  She was absolutely great.  You really felt the weight of her emotions in every scene.  And since i'm one of those jerks who largely ignores the female characters, that coming from me is very rare.  The last few episodes I was seriously getting confused on who remembered what lol.  But probably my favorite part, other than that hilariously gay scene where the Reaper tries to hide the Goblin from Duk Hwa, is where he tells Sunny his name is Wang Yeo.  It was subtle, but it felt like the hardest thing he'd ever had to say.  There's some fine acting in this show, honestly.  All the mains are truly fantastic and I can rarely seriously say that about any show.  There's always someone overacting like fuck.

Still pressing on with Wu Xin.  That commander cracks me up bc he makes the most ridiculous faces.  Speaking of overacting...lool.  Main guy though has some abs damn.  I feel like I've seen the Yue Ya girl in something before.  Waiting for Mike D'Angelo to show up, I haven't seen him in a minute.

Saw an article about fans hating Junno from KAT-TUN for I guess leaving and going solo and ugh that whole thing frustrates me so much.  On one hand, I can understand bc it's like, wow, you knew KT was hanging by a thread and then you just bailed anyway.  PLUS, not even to change your path, but to release solo music.  And honestly, his solo music so far has been really sub-par.  I thought when he had solos with KT that his voice was pretty strong, but his solos have shown so far that it's not.  I like Junno a lot and lowkey want him to succeed, but I'm not pretending these singles have been good and honestly, leaving and then making a U-turn on music was kinda shitty.

Was perusing AKP yesterday and saw some article about D-list celebs namedropping BTS or whatever and their fans eating it up.  Tbh, in all my years of following Asian music, I have NEVER understood why other fans are so jonesing for them to get recognition here.  Like, just stop.  It won't happen.  They'll get recognition as a curiosity, nothing more.   Americans have no tolerance for foreign acts and they especially seem to have something against Asians.  Plus the celebrity culture is totally different here.  If the choice is being recognize as a curiosity or not recognized at all, I'd choose the latter.
