A L'arc survey of sorts
Oct. 3rd, 2013 11:23 amI'm doing this whole challenge thing elsewhere, and some of it doesn't really matter here or whatever, but, I thought I'd fill it out here too. I'm not a grumpy, jaded old L'arc fan lol. Well, not entirely. ;p I used to be pretty in love with them.
1 - Your favorite group picture

Reasons
2 - First song you heard from them
Niji and The Ghost in My Room technically, but As If In A Dream was my de facto real introduction.
3 - Your favorite member
I admit, it's Hyde, it's always been Hyde. Why, I don't know anymore lol. Because he's also really annoying and tacky and tryhard. But I can't deny that I love his voice and think he's cute.
4 - Your favorite song by Hyde
Honey. Hyde's songs, overall, are my least favorite, but he has a few that are in my top whatever. Go figure.
5 - Your favorite song by Ken
See, now this is much harder, because Ken's songs ARE my favorites. But it's probably Lost Heaven. I love the fuck out of that song for some reason.
6 - Your favorite song by Tetsu
Easy, Stay Away. Also, my favorite L'arc song period.
7 - Your favorite song by Yukihiro
Also pretty easy, REVELATION.
8 - Something funny (pic, quote, video, etc)
Um, one of my favorite funny L'arc moments was that time, forget which concert, where Hyde is playing guitar and his microphone keeps falling and he has to slouch lower and lower to be able to sing. Also, Ken running across the stage and falling still kills me to this day.
9 - Your favorite lyric
Idk, I have a lot of Hyde's lyrics I like, when I take the trouble to pay attention. Far too troublesome to weed one out for this lol
10 - Your favorite concert
It used to be the Real live where they're in this smallish venue (for them), but now it is unquestionably the 15th L'anni live. Hyde was pretty much flawless and since I can rarely say this about him live, that's huge for me.
11 - A song you want (or had) to listen (listened) in a concert
I don't think I've seen kaze no yukue or Shutting from the Sky live yet and I'd really like to
12 - A song you don’t like from them
Oh there are plenty, believe me. Mostly on Heavenly. I hate Good Morning Hide and Ophelia is mostly made of suck also.
13 - Your favorite PV
Stay Away hahah.
14 - Your favorite Album
I've vacillated on this. It has been Tierra and Heart and REAL and lately I'm tempted to say Awake, since I'm secure in my jaded L'arc fandomness and no longer give a shit. I think my favorite one is the one they do next. ;p They're due for a really good one.
15 - Your favorite song from Dune
Shutting From The Skyyyyyy
16 - Your favorite song from Tierra
Kaze no Yukue
17 - Your favorite song from Heavenly
Cureless. Aka the only song I like from Heavenly.jk, sort of
18 - Your favorite song from True
Caress of fucking Venus. Seventh Heaven was good, but I'll thank you to quit copying it, Hyde.
19 - Your favorite song from Heart
Shout At The Devil
20 - Your favorite song from Ark
Proooobably Dive To Blue.
21 - Your favorite song from Ray
Honey, but ibara no namida live
22 - Your favorite song from Real
Stay Away obviously
23 - Your favorite song from Smile
Revelation
24 - Your favorite song from Awake
Lost Heaven
25 - Your favorite song from Kiss
Seventh Heaven or Link. Though the single version of the latter was vastly superior
26 - Your favorite B-side
Their b-sides are pretty much b-sides for a reason. That said, I have feelings for Metropolis, but only since they did it live at 15th L'anni. ;p
27 - Your favorite P’Unk~en~Ciel’s song
I hate them all
28 - Some goods you own
Just albums and DVDs
29 - A cover by yourself
Hahah no
30 - Your “all time” favorite song
Stay Away

Aug. 22nd, 2013 09:16 am I was never able to do this back then, but it's nice to like L'arc without being in the fandom and thus, not influenced by any of the ridiculousness that goes on, went on. Fandoms ruin shit, man. For example, I've recently realized that I really like their last three albums and not to take anything away from earlier ones, but it's possible I just wore them out back then lol. Smile is still dull though. There was literally only three good songs and that's if you have the Tofu version which included Spirit Dreams Inside. A song I've always been partial to for some reason. Thing is, they obviously changed their sound/approach what have you after Smile and I think the fandom, me included to a certain extent, just couldn't deal with it.
Seeecondly, Hyde. I actually really like VAMPS, in spite of the fact that I rather hate Kaz's guitarwork, but it's less obnoxious somehow than it was in his solo, specifically Faith. It's hilarious, but I really think that album was awful and vastly prefer 666. Back then, my opinion was the opposite lol. The first VAMPS album kinda continued that too, which is why I think the second one is WAY better. Even now, I hardly listen to the first one, mostly the second one. Another reason for that is because Hyde finally figured out how to sing "rock" in a way that is convincing and doesn't sound like an emo teenager. Frankly, I'd say his voice is better than ever, if not always his technique. Though it was on like fuck in the 15th L'anni thing, which was sort of my re-induction and I was kinda blown away by how he good he was there. Perfect, almost.
I also had occasion to check out his Best of solo thing and barring a few craps from Faith, it really did showcase his best stuff, including the Dist songs and my two faves from Roentgen. Which, unpopular opinion time, that was really a boring as fuck album, Idk why everyone creams themselves over it.. But unlike just about everyone else, I have NEVER liked Hyde's jazzyfart songs. I like jazz too, just not those elevator, adult-contemporary crapfests. Tbh, I think 666 is my favorite solo album from him. Faith was trying to be way too pretentious for the level of talent involved. 666 was simple and whatever, the sort of thing I expect from Hyde lol.
Anyway, I don't really care about L'arc as a band like I did back then. I like their music, but I'm not pretending I care about any of them lol. Except Hyde because he's an attractive bastard and I really do love his voice, as much as I tried to deny it. Also, Yuki, poor striving-to-be-normal Yuki.

I don't really pay attention to where Jrock/VK fans hang out anymore. Seems like there's quite a few on Tumblr now, though that medium is really hard when you're trying to find specific tags for example and some of these guys have the same names and plus, anime names are inevitably included. But I do really find the Tanuki blog fascinating and kind of awesome. Back when I was heavily into this stuff, people and their ships man. Which is bad and annoying enough, but the thing is, they seemed to really believe that about 90% of Jrockers were gay and screwing their bandmates. It's fairly hilarious to me now to see that exactly the opposite is true. Not that I really ever doubted this, but try to explaining it to these nutters.
The best part is the ones that people were convinced were like "part-gay" are the straightest of them all. What I tried to explain to people back then, that nobody got, is that their own biases and stereotypes were playing into their assumptions. Basically, most Western cultures have this idea that effeminate, from OUR prospective, equals gay. From 7-8 years ago, I don't really see this going away. And that was the reason these fangirls were using to insist that various Jrockers, lbr VK guys, were gay.
One of the best entries on that Tumblr so far was the anon that was all, so people don't think Hyde is even a little bit gay? The Tanuki translator said nope, it's not even a rumor, and it's also well-known that he sleeps around with other chicks a LOT. I freaking said this for YEARS lol. I even had some stuff from this Japanese friend I had at the time that was basically saying that he wasn't living with his wife and everyone knew that he was a total womanizer. That lack of judgment on my part led to me eventually moving my blog because the fandom was MAD and I got tired of defending that shit. LIke, omg, I'm so sorry Hyde is not your gay twink having affairs with Gackt and/or Tetsu. Seriously, it was ridiculous.
The second best part of that blog is the disturbing fact that Tetsu has a well-known lollicon. Hilarious, if kinda eewww, because I also knew several stans who were completely CONVINCED that he was gayer than anything. Again, never thought he was gay, but always thought there was something a little off about him. The lollicon explains that in spades.
Basically, I love this blog because it's showing these people that not only are their fantasies just that, but they are not even REMOTELY true. I wish I could take it back in time lol.
